Woodware - What do you do with your brayer!!

First of all apologies for no blog post last week. I am recovering from a nasty chest infection and I spent most of last week in my bed. But I went back to work today and am trying to get back on track!!
This week we are playing with our brayers!! How many of us have them and hardly use them ...... indeed!! Although I did actually do workshops using brayers in my Stampaholic days. One of my favourite techniques is using the brayer and paper masks to create mini landscapes. So this is what I did for this week's Woodware challenge

I cut out a line of hill tops from some scrap paper and lay that onto my panel of white card stock. I then inked up the brayer with a dye ink (Mountain Rose Adirondack). I rolled off the first revolution of the brayer onto scrap paper. Then roll several times in one direction over the card and mask. Then lift the mask and move it up and along a bit. Repeat the brayering without re-inking to get a line of softer hills behind. Then I moved the mask down towards the base of the card stock and re-inked for a darker layer of hills in the foreground.

Then it is just a case of some over-stamping to finish off. I like to use purples, blues and greens for this technique depending on the mood I am trying to capture.
Well that's it for now. I am having a month off the DT. The very talented Kim Reygate is going to be filling in for me until the end of May. So be sure to check out the Woodware blog to see what she and the other girls are up to!!

Woodware - Sketch Challenge

It's sketch time this week on the Woodware Challenge blog. This is sketch number 33. I was quite glad it was a sketch this week. I am having another "STOP the world ... I want to get off" moments. I am sure most people have them from time to time but at the moment I just have too many deadlines and not enough time. I don't get much time to craft so having to do a project every week makes me do at least one thing a week. A little bit of me time that is very precious!!
Anyway enough moaning ......!!
I kept very true to the sketch this time as you can see!!

This cute little bear is a cling from Stampendous. So I just layered him up with nice papers and as I had my sewing machine out I did some stitching.

I think Dorothy was surprised when I sent this to her as I don't often do cute. But he is adorable and I haven't had a chance to use him until now.
Hope you all enjoy the Easter weekend.

Woodware - Sweet Dreams

This week our theme on the Woodware challenge blog is "Sweet Dreams". I was going to make a card using one of the cute house mouse stamps. But a few of the girls were thinking along the same lines. So I thought I had better think of something else. There weren't however many sweet dreams this week for me. For the first time I had to attend for jury duty. I never win anything in a raffle or the lottery. So out of nearly 100 people I never thought I would get picked..... but I did. I did find it very interesting, if not particularly pleasant, since the accused was facing charges of rape, sexual assault and robbery. I found that I didn't sleep too well especially the night before we had to reach a verdict. We returned a unanimous guilty verdict and I am happy we made the right decision. But I really don't want to have to go through it again!! After 6 days I was actually looking forward going back to work!

Back to this week's project ..... I decided to make a "quilt" effect for my background. I cut some strips of card in various widths. Then I stamped them tone on tone colours to add more interest. I then cut out a 14cm square of white card and covered it with double sided adhesive film or tape. it is then very easy to lay on your strips to build up your patchwork. I then trim off all the ends.

Then I finished off with some faux stitching and buttons and pearls.

The sentiment comes from a new clear Stampendous set. Remember to stop by the Woodware blog for details of the latest challenge and lots of inspiration!!
Looking forward to the weekend and spending some time tidying up the garden!!

Woodware - Only Words

Well I am last up this week at Woodware this week. Our theme is "Only Words" I have always loved word stamps and have quite a collection. The one I have chosen for this week's card is an old Stampendous stamp which is now available as a cling.

I have used several text stamps for the various elements. My flower was made up with about 6 layers, each of which was stamped with a script stamp. If you have never tried one of these then this is how I make them:

  • Punch out or die cut at least six flowers in an appropriate size
  • Put all the layers together, trying to offset the petals in each layer.
  • Fasten with a brad.
  • Working one layer at a time, spritz with water and gently scrunch up the petals.
  • After the last layer you should have a scrunched up ball.
  • Allow to dry.
  • Gently unfold the petals from the outside in.
  • Optional - spritz with a mica spray for a little glimmer.

I keep meaning to make a pile of these on a lap tray watching telly so that I have a ready made stash!! Best laid plans .....
This has been an interesting week. I was cited to attend for jury service at the beginning of the week. Never expecting to be selected I went along and found myself coming out of the ballot. So I have been at high court this week in Perth as a juror !! We have to go back on Monday, hopefully for the last day. It has certainly been an interesting, if not enjoyable experience. But I will be quite glad now for it to be over!!
Hope you have an enjoyable weekend.
