Woodware Design Team - Sketch Challenge # 6

This is my second project for this week's Sketch Challenge. For this card I have chosen a Woodware set with Jane's Bubble Tree. I love this stylised tree because it's such fun to decorate. I have gone for a slightly more grungy look. I am using a lot of creams and browns this Christmas. Do you find you go through periods of certain colour combos.......I know I do!

Bubble Tree

I stamped the tree with Vesamark and embossed with white powder on to Kraft card stock. I then die-cut my circles and stamped a few little snowflakes in brown. I coloured in the tree trunk with some paint from the Vintage micacolor palette. I splattered some of these gorgeous paints over the entire circle. Then you can decorate to your hearts content!! I used various pearls and gems from my stash. I particularly like the 3 sizes of natural coloured pearls that Woodware sell. They are great as they go with just about every thing!!

 The background was a combination of scrapbook paper (this was an old Magenta Christmas paper), Kraft card and brown Bazzill. I stamped the sentiment and some extra snowflakes in brown onto the background paper. To give the layers a more snowy feel I sponged a little Versamark along the bottom and top edges of the paper then embossed with white powder. I quite like this effect. It just softens the edges and adds to the slightly grungy look.

Woodware Design Team - Sketch Challenge # 6

 

We have another sketch challenge this week. I quite like these as you don't have to think about the layout. This is an extra post from me this week as our Stamping Caz is having a bit of time out for a few weeks.
 So I thought I would try something cute with some glitter in honour of Caz!!

Skating Rocco

This cute little guy is from Stampendous CRV181. I don't think I need to explain any more. Oh apart from the blue scallop oval. I cut out a piece of Woodware's double sided adhesive film slightly bigger than the oval. I then peeled off one side and stuck it onto some white card stock. After die-cutting the oval I peeled off the top layer to reveal the sticky side and covered with pastel blue ultra fine glitter. I am not usually a glitter person but this card needed a bit!!

This is such a simple card therefore a great one for batching. The "Happy Christmas" is from Jane's Woodware set JGCL551 Christmas Verses. It has lots of nice Christmas sentiments on it.

Woodware Design Team - Just One Layer

This week's challenge is called "Just One Layer". Easy I thought!! But no, definitely not so easy!! I think we spend a lot of time adding layers to projects, that it is hard to get back to basics!!

I decided to use my new Dreamweaver stencil LJ906 Maple Leaves for my card.

• To start with I measured 1.5cm in from each edge of my 15cm square card blank. 
• I masked off this area with post-it notes and sponged shades of orange and red inks to make the background.
• I used a circle mask to create the setting sun.
• I then stencil embossed the maple leaves onto the front of the card.
• I used shades of reds and browns pigment inks and a stencil brush to colour the leaves.
• To finish off I splattered paint from a Pearl Ex micacolour palette. The one I used is called Vintage, which has some lovely autumnal shades in it.

Woodware Design Team - Spooky Treats

This week we were asked to make something to fit the theme "Spooky Treats". Now I am not a great lover of Halloween so I don't have many specific Halloween stamps. So I decided to make a little triangle gift box that could be decorated for any occasion.

This is such an easy little box to make as it is just one piece of card. The rule is that the length of card should be twice the width. For this one I did the following:

• Cut orange card 5 x 10 inches
• Score in middle as if you were making a 5" card blank.
• Make a mark at the centre of both short sides (2.5ins). 
• Score from this point to the centre of the long side. Repeat for both sides and both ends of the card.
• Use a bone folder to create nice crisp folds. Apply d/s tape along one long edge of the side flap. Bring the box together and stick down.
• Leave the other side un-stuck so that you can fill your box. 
• Punch a hole at the intersection where the side flaps come together and tie with ribbon.

The handle is an optional extra. I pinched this idea from my sister Michelle. I showed her the box idea and she adapted it to make favour boxes. The handle makes it easier to hand out for Halloween or parties etc. You could even make little dinky ones to hang on the Christmas tree.

• If you are making a handle attach it to the front and back panel of the card with a brad.

The stamps I used to decorate my box are from Artemio. This clear set has lots of sweets, cakes and candles. I think it worked quite well stamping in black onto the orange card.

The little finishing touch war the crow from Stampendous "Crowscape" which I have used recently. It was sitting on my desk and I thought it would be a "spooky" little finishing touch.

Woodware Design Team - Look what I did with my Flock

This week at Woodware we are all flocking!! Actually most of my flocking ended up in the bin. I think I left my Mojo in Ireland. After much huffing and puffing I decided to flock a little flock of sheep.

I sponged a little back drop of mountains and field. I stamped the sheep in black onto the scene and also onto a piece of white card. The two sheep are a little Magenta stamp 37.216 Sheepish Pair. I applied a glue pen (Zig) to the sheep on the white card and covered with flock. If you press down with the back of a spoon, you will get better coverage with the flock. One dry I cut out the sheep's bodies and stuck onto the scene with foam pads.


I then cut a strip of Kraft card and punched with the ribbon crafty edger. I sponged some brown ink on top to create the little fence. The sentiment I typed on the computer and cut out. The buttons came from a pack of Coffee and Cream buttons and the foliage is a punch called Ash Branch.

I don't know what it is about sheep, but I used to get asked a lot for sheep stamps in the shop!! Be sure to check out the Woodware blog and see what the other girls did with their flock.

Woodware Design Team - Something for the Boys

This week I decided to do a fun card to fit the brief fo "Something for the Boys". I had a rake through my Woodware stamps and found this set that Francoise designed called "Jungle Pals".

This is a great set for boys and girls. I often make a Criss Cross card for my nieces and nephews as it's a nice way to tuck in a gift card or some money. 

To make the basic pocket, cut a 12 x 12 sheet of card in half. Score both down the middle as if you are making a 6" card blank. On one cut from the top centre to the bottom right corner (so you have a 6 in square with a triangle attached). On the second piece cut from top centre to bottom left. Stick one square on top of the other and fold in the two flaps. Run a line of DS tape along the bottom edge of both the flaps and stick down.
Then cut a strip of card to form the wrap around band and you are ready to decorate.

The insert is where you can write your message.

It's nice too to make a matching bookmark, which can also get tucked into the pocket.

Woodware Design Team - Sugar and Spice

Hi Everyone

This week at Woodware we are onto "Sugar and Spice". Help.......!!! I don't have much little girly type stuff apart from my Tilda stamps. I need another lifetime to get through all of those!!! So I had a rake and found this delightful Magenta stamp which I have used for baby cards. 

I then computer generated the words and hey presto ... I had the bare bones to get started. Sugar and Spice - well that had to be pink and brown but cinamon brown rather than chocolate brown.  The fan flowes were made with a die I have but you can do them by hand using any border scallop punch and scoring between each scallop. I used to do them that way until I got a die.

The punched  border is a cassette for the Woodware crafty edger and my favourite at the moment. Have I said before how easy these are to use!! Remember to check up on the rest of the DT at the Woodware blog.

Woodware Design Team - Sketch Challenge

This week is another sketch challenge over at Woodware. Here is the sketch :

Nice and simple. I thought I would do a couple of Christmas samples this time. I have just received a couple of new Woodware Christmas stamp sets. The Christmas tree comes from a new Francoise set FRCL 204  Teardrop Christmas. I used to do special workshops that included a set of stamps and I often used Woodware sets. They were always good value for money and this set would have been perfect.

I am sure I will be using this set again for future challenges. I used a traditional colour scheme for this very easy card. I don't know about you but I tend to do more simple ideas for Christmas.

The tree was embossed using a Stampendous embossing powder called Nutmeg. I also dry brushed a little gesso onto the dotty paper to make it look a little more interesting. Some simple layering and a sentiment to complete. 
The sentiment comes from another new Woodware set designed by Jane Gill JGCL 551. I embellished it with gold nail heads. 

The next sample is the sketch used the other way up.
This time I used a Stampendous set SSC1013 Winter Trees
to create my little winter scene. This is a lovely little set which I have used quite a bit in the past. This time I have gone for blues and greys.
The border for the centre strip was made using the Woodware Crafty edger starter set (with the ribbon slot border)
