Working with Canvas

As some of my friends know I was down near Skipton at the weekend. This is my third time with my crafting buddy Linda. Another two crafting friends Irene and Cathy came with us. This time we were working with canvas. I have dabbled from time to time but have always been a bit nervous about using paints etc to build up the layers. So this was a great choice for me. I learnt so much and now feel inspired to play with all the various canvases I have piled up in my cupboard!!
Michelle from Lovin' Ink led the first workshop. This was her creation...

You can see it better on her blog. I loved the techniques used with acrylic paint, gesso and texture paste. However I am not really into elegant ladies so decided to go more for a nature theme. I was really quite pleased how it turned out.

I was able to use some of the new Memory Box dies that I bought in Glasgow last week at the craft fair.

The paste was applied using a Prima mask.

This is the Chloe Stem Memory Box die. It worked a treat with glossy accents!!

The frame was made from the Labels 8 Spellbinder dies. We cut out 3 layers in card and one from textured wallpaper. Glued together they make a very sturdy frame. A feel a trip to B & Q coming on to acquire a few wallpaper samples!!

I debated about which dragonfly die to buy, in the end I bought both....just as well as I needed both sizes to finish off my canvas.
Tomorrow I will show you what Neil Walker did with us, a totally different look!! If you haven't already visited Neil's blog I can tell you it is amazing. He is such a talented guy. As is Susan his lovely wife. All I will say is that we all created vibrant canvasses similar to this one

I have to finish off my ostriches so will show and tell tomorrow.
Hope you are enjoying this nice spell of weather .. nice to feel spring is almost here!!

  3. I was booked for the retreat in September but unfortunately I had to cancel due to my husband's illness. But I'm determined I'll get to one some time in the next year, especially having read your blog and seen the gorgeous techniques you've been trying out. Both canvases are lovely - the caged bird is one of my favourite die sets and I love the way you have added flowers to the cage. Gorgeous colours too. Elizabeth x
